RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights Unit – The defence attorney, Foroogh Mirzaee, who was arrested a few days after Ashura- December 27th 2009- along with her husband, was released on Tuesday. Mirzaee’s husband, Roozbeh Karimi, who is a journalist, remains in jail.
Mahin Fahimi who was arrested along with her son, Omid Montazeri, was also released Tuesday night. Fahimi is a close relative of Sohrab Arabi, the young protester who was killed after the June presidential election. Fahimi’s husband, Hamid Montazeri was executed during the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.
Fahimi’s son, Omid, was tried recently during the show trials staged for Ashura detainees.
Zohreh Tonkaboni, a member of the Mothers for peace was another prisoner who was released Tuesday night along with the journalist, Ali Nazari.
Also released are Alireza Beheshti, Mousavi’s chief adviser and Mohammad Reza Tajik who was once the VP in the Khatami administration.
