RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights Unit – On January 2nd, 2010, Omid Ali Mehrnia was arrested in front of his family by agents from the Intelligence Ministry. The agents said that Mehrnia would return home the same night after answering a few simple questions. Close to 40 days have passed and Mehrnia has yet to call his family.
According to a report by CHRR, a factor that is increasing worries over Mehrnia’s ongoing detention is his age.
At the time of the arrest, Mehrnia was told that his apprehension was related to his alleged ties to the MKO and his participation in illegal gatherings.
Mehrnia’s wife suffers from high blood pressure and the stress she has endured since her husband’s arrest, has devastated her.
