RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights Unit – During the visit Morteza Samyari was only allowed to talk about family matters and could not tell his family about the details of his case.
According to Amir Kabir website, Samyari appeared to be distressed and in dreadful emotional state. The visit has only added to his family’s previous worries over his emotional and physical wellbeing.
In recent days, an anonymous person has contacted Samyari’s father, suggesting that his son has been charged with Moharebeh, a crime punishable by death penalty. Moharebeh Charge was not part of Samyari’s indictment during his arraignment, and the anonymous contacts are in line with Intelligence Ministry’s policy to put pressure on and torment the families of political prisoners.
The family has not been permitted to hire a lawyer or to meet with their son’s court appointed attorney. The details of the case against Samyari remain unknown to this day.
