RAHANA Prisoners’ Rights – Despite their daily efforts to seek information from courts and other authorities, the families of Sourena and Alireza have been unable to get any news of their detained sons.
Earlier on, officers of the Tehran Police force concluded that Alireza was in Tehran by tracking his cell phone signal. However, there is still no information as to their whereabouts or the arresting authority. The 2 student activists have not contacted their families since their arrest more than a month ago.
Alireza and Sourena were arrested while on a trip to the northwestern cities of Tabriz and Oroumiyeh and have not been seen since. After the arrest, agents who were in possession of their email information attempted to contact their families and friends. Remarks made by the agents during these online chat sessions have left the families in a state of extreme anguish with regards to their sons’ fates.
The agents, whose intentions are unclear, continue to go online with the email IDs of the 2 student activists. The latest of such online forays was today.
Alireza Firouzi and Sourena Hashemi are Zanjan University student activists. They were arrested once before and sentenced each to 1 year and half in prison after exposing the university’s deputy director in a sexual abuse case.
